WASHINGTON, D.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team will play their third game in nine days as they take on American University this evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Bender Arena in Washington, D.C.

The Hawks (0-2) are coming off of a 108-74 loss in New York to the Lions of Columbia University. Junior Dishawn Bradshaw (Baltimore, Md.) had his second straight double-digit point game, scoring 11 points for UMES. Two others scored 11 points for the Hawks in junior Tyler Hines (Sicklerville, N.J.) and redshirt junior Hillary Haley (Oxon Hill, Md.). Redshirt junior Tim Burns (Franklinville, N.J.) chipped in ten points of his own.

Senior Kevin White (Brooklyn, N.Y.) leads the team with a season scoring of average of 12.5 points per game. UMES is led in rebounding by Hines with an average of 7.5 per game.

This is the first non-conference game the Hawks will play in Washington, D.C. since December 17, 2005 when UMES fell to #15 George Washington, 98-72. The Eagles are looking to start the season 3-0 for the first time since the 1982-83 season when they were 3-0 under head coach Ed Tapscott. American has recorded wins so far this season over St. Francis (Pa.), 62-52, and Albany, 57-44. The Eagles are not a very deep team as only nine players have appeared in the first two games. Vlad Moldoveanu (17.5) and Troy Brewer (11.0) are the only two players averaging double figures this season.

Tonight marks the 14th meeting between UMES and American, but only the second time since 1948, when UMES was known as Maryland State College. To date, the Eagles hold the series advantage at 10-3. The Hawks took the victory in the last game, winning 65-58 in Princess Anne on November 28, 2009.

Tonight's game can be heard live on the Hawks Radio Network on 95.9 The Sports Animal and live on the Internet at UMESHawks.com thanks to allinbroadcasting.com. Bret Lasky has the call for UMES with Dave Vatz live in studio. Video is also available at AUEagles.TV for a fee.
