PRINCESS ANNE, Md. --The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced Hillary Haley (Oxon Hill, Md.) as a member of the preseason All-MEAC Second-Team recently. Haley is a 6-foot 7-inch senior guard and forward at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
This is Haley's second consecutive announcement to the preseason All-MEAC team. He made his first appearance to the list during the 2010-11 seasons.
Haley finished last season as the team's leading scorer averaging 16.2 points per game while shooting 41.2 percent from the field. He also joined the 1,000-point club following the team's game versus Coppin State. Haley led the team in defensive rebounds with 122, and scored a career-high 33 points versus Howard University.
The National Association of Basketball Coaches named Haley to the 2011 NABC Division I All-District 15 Second Team last year.
His return will anchor a young, talented and experienced Hawks program entering its season opener at George Washington University (Nov. 11). Haley is one of four returnees from last season, and is expected to be a team leader for the program.
The MEAC also released the predicted finishes of the 13 conference teams based on head coaches voting. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore was selected 12th, considering its 10th place finish in 2010-11.
The Hawks will compete in a tough non-conference schedule when it opens the season at George Washington, then host American University (Nov. 14). The Hawks will also travel to Tulane (Nov. 18), Rice (Nov. 20) and Kansas State (Nov. 22). Staying out west, UMES will compete in the Jim Thorpe Classic hosted by the University of Wyoming (Nov. 25-27) before returning to the W.P. Hytche Athletic Arena to host Navy (Nov. 30).
