PERCY WOODS EARNS WEEKLY CONFERENCE RECOGNITION

Dec. 12, 2011

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- University of Maryland Eastern Shore's Percy Woods received his first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference recognition Monday as he was named MEAC Player of the Week. Woods helped lead UMES to a 95-69 defeat of Mercy College on Saturday. He marked his first double-double of the season with a 16-point and 10-assist performance.

"This is a well-deserved honor for Percy," said head coach Frankie Allen. "Hopefully this is the first of many MEAC honors, and inspires our team to pursue the same recognition."

Woods has been one of the Hawks' most productive members this season scoring 119 points (10.8 PPG), and is second in points per game. Against Wyoming he scored a season-high 18 points. Woods has scored in double figures at least five times this year, and is solid from three-point range. Twice this season Woods has posted a 66.7 percent three-point average, and a finished with a personal-best 80 percent average (4-of-5) versus Rice.

Woods has been a stout defender and aggressive on the boards. "He (Percy) does what we ask offensively and defensively to help us," Allen stated. Woods grabbed six rebounds against Delaware State and had five steals in the team's most recent win over Mercy.

The Hawks will travel to the United States Air Force Academy (Dec. 17) for one of its last two games of the 2011 season. Following its Air Force contest UMES will head to the University of Virginia (Dec. 27) before the New Year.
