COOK, SPENCER NAMED PRMC UMES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Dec. 18, 2011

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Amber Cook (Greensboro, N.C.) and sophomore Ron Spencer (Sicklerville, N.J.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 19. This is the second time that Cook has been honored with the award, while Spencer receives it for the first time.

Spencer opened his play for the Hawks with an outstanding performance this past weekend against The Air Force Academy. The center, who recently transferred from the University of Tennessee-Martin, was the top performer for the men's basketball team as he posted 11 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in the loss. The game against Air Force was his first in a Hawk uniform.

Cook continued her sound play for the women's basketball team with two big performances this past week. The senior began the week with a five point, three rebound effort against Towson University. In the game against the Tigers, Cook chipped in with one assist and one steal, while going 3-for-4 from the charity stripe. Her efforts did not stop there as she recorded a 15 point, four rebound and two assist performance in UMES' loss to the University of South Florida. She went 9-of-16 from the foul line against the Bulls.

The women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 21 when they travel to Old Dominion University. The men's basketball team will take off a little over a week before hitting the road for a contest at the University of Virginia on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
