Charlottesville, Va. -- Following a heartbreaking loss to Air Force December 17, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team will travel to the University of Virginia December 27. The game is slated for a 7:00 PM tip-off.

With a break in its season for the holiday, the Hawks return to the court rested and ready to take on a tough UVA program. The No. 23/24 ranked Cavaliers enter Tuesday's game with a record of 10-1, having lost only to Texas Christian University. Virginia defeated No. 14 Michigan 70-58 earlier in the season, and average just under 70 points per game.

The Hawks recently fell to Air Force 64-60, but were tied with one-minute remaining in the game. Ronald Spencermade his debut versus the Falcons and gave the Hawks a defensive spark that it greatly needed.

Spencer finished with 11 points and eight rebounds and is a member of a Hawk backcourt averaging 35 rebounds per game. On the boards UMES holds a +1.4 rebound advantage. Senior Tyler Hinesholds a team-high 79 total rebounds (6.6 RPG), grabbing a season-high 15 rebounds in the team's opener at George Washington.

Newcomers Ishaq Pitt and Percy Woods is a tandem in the frontcourt scoring a majority of the Hawks offense. The pair along with sophomore Louis Bellhas scored 368 points this season and average just under 52 percent of the team's offensive production.

Woods and Bell are averaging 11.1 and 11.0 points per game, respectively, while Pitt contributes 8.6 PPG. Pitt had his best game against Navy, scoring 19 points and shooting better than 62 percent from the floor. Bell scored a season-high 21 points versus American and has since tapered his scoring down.

A comparatively sized Virginia program will be a challenge for the Hawks, but also give UMES an opponent unlike what the team will face in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

The game will be available on the Hawks Radio Network.
