PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is proud to announce that Timeless Favorites WGOP 540 AM/100.7 FM will be the flagship station for Hawks volleyball this season.
WGOP, a 500 watt station based out of Pocomoke City, was the home for Lady Hawks basketball and UMES baseball last season and has been in operation since 1955. The station will also provide an internet link to listen to the matches online that is available on the UMES broadcast page.
"This gives our fans and supporters a great way to stay in touch with our team, especially when we are on the road," says volleyball head coach Don Metil.
Dave Vatz returns for his second season as the voice of Hawks volleyball and is set to call all of UMES's matches this year.
"It is wonderful to expand the Hawks Radio Network on a great local station that has been a home to our broadcasts for years," says Vatz.
The first broadcast is set for the opening of the season on Friday, September 2nd at 2:00 p.m. when the Hawks take on Bethune-Cookman in their first game of the USF Invitational in Tampa, Florida.
