SAITAUA IOSIA NAMED MEAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

MEAC Volleyball Weekly Honors- Week 2

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has announced the UMES freshman outside hitter Saitaua Iosia (Long Beach, Calif.) is the league's Rookie of the Week for the period ending September 4th.

In her first four matches in a UMES uniform, Iosia led the Hawks in kills each time. She started with double-doubles in her first two matches, tallying 15 kills and 11 digs in the opener against Bethune-Cookman and earning 13 kills and 11 digs in the victory against South Florida. Her 17 kills against Bowling Green stands as the individual season high of the team.

Iosia was named to the USF Invitational All-Tournament Team after earning 55 kills, 35 digs, five service aces and nine blocks in the combined four matches. She averaged 3.24 kills per set with a hitting percentage of .218 and had double digit kills all four matches, finishing with 10 against Eastern Kentucky.

This is the team's first conference weekly honor of the season.

Iosia and the Hawks will next play in the Bryant Invitational next weekend in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
