PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Seniors Adobi Agbasi (Columbus, Ga.) and Hillary Haley (Ft. Washington, Md.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 13. This is the first time that Agbasi has claimed the honor, while Haley accepts it for the second time in the past three weeks.
It was the Adobi Agbasi show in both of the women's victories this past week. The senior posted career-highs in points (22) and blocks (eight), while taking down 11 boards in UMES' 62-58 overtime win against Norfolk State University. She then went on to notch a career-high 17 rebounds, 16 points and seven blocks in a 75-57 win at Morgan State University. The 15 blocks recorded by Agbasi this week moves her to within 25 of Kristi Veltkamp's all-time blocks record, as she neared a triple-double in both games.
Haley spearheaded the men's team to a 1-1 record as he notched 37 points across two games. He began the week with a game-high 24 points and three rebounds on an 11-for-19 shooting performance in the Hawks' 72-60 loss at Norfolk St. His effort continued with 13 points and four assists in a team-high 34 minutes against Morgan St. Haley has led UMES in points in two of the past three games and stands second on the team with 227 points this year.
The basketball teams have a pair of big Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference games this week. The squads hit the road to take on Coppin State University on Monday, Feb. 13, before traveling south to square off with Hampton University on Saturday, Feb. 18.
