AGBASI, WALSH NAMED PRMC UMES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

March 4, 2012

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Adobi Agbasi (Columbus, Ga.) and junior Andre Walsh (St. Catherine, Jamaica) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of March 5.

Agbasi became the University of Maryland Eastern Shore's all-time women's basketball blocks leader on Thursday night as the Hawks used a brilliant second-half rally to defeat Savannah State University, 47-42, at the William P. Hytche Center on Senior Day. Agbasi ripped down a huge offensive rebound and converted a three-point play to give UMES a lead that it would never relinquish.

The senior is the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's leader in blocks. She finished the game against SSU with five blocks and now has 101 on the season. Agbasi did not stop there, as she chipped in with 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds in her final regular-season home game.

Walsh led the UMES men's indoor track team to a third-place finish at the IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend. The sprinter won the 200m dash finals with a time of 20.89. His time ended up being just .04 seconds off of the meet's record.

His cause was also supported by a fourth-place finish in the 60m dash preliminaries (6.88) and third-place finish in the 60m dash semifinals (6.83). He won the 200m preliminaries (21.19) before slaying the competition in the 200m dash finals. Walsh ran the second leg of UMES' fourth-place 4x400m relay, which finished in fourth (3:14.26).

The women's basketball team returns to action on Monday, March 5, when the Hawks play Savannah State in the first-round of the MEAC Tournament at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C. The indoor track team will gear up for the NCAA Championships in Boise, Idaho, on March 9-10.
