PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Juniors T'nia Falbo (Greenburg, Pa.) and Tre-von Johnson (East New Market, Md.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of April 16. This is the third time this year that Falbo has received the award, while Johnson is accepting it for the first time.
Johnson was nothing short of phenomenal for the baseball team this past week. He was 15-for-24 with the bat across a five-game span to lead UMES with a .625 batting average. The East New Market, Md., product ripped four doubles and had four RBIs last week, while also scoring seven runs and stealing one base. He hit safely in all five games, but it was his performance in the series opener against Norfolk State that highlighted the week for the Hawks. In Saturday's first game, Johnson was 6-for-6 with three runs and two doubles.
Falbo guided the bowling team to their third NCAA Championship and fourth National Title in women's collegiate bowling this past weekend. She was fantastic the entire tournament and was rewarded by being named the Most Outstanding Performer, as well as being honored to the All-Tournament team. She served as the anchor for the team the entire weekend and came up big for the Hawks on several occasions. Falbo anchored the Hawks to four victories this past week.
The baseball team resumes play on Tuesday, April 17 with a contest against Navy at Hawks Stadium at 3 p.m. The bowling team looks to capture its second national title this season, when the women open up play in the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships on Thursday, April 20 in Lincoln, Neb.
