PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Solana McMillan (Teaneck, N.J.) and sophomore Tyler Witte (Westminster, Md.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of April 2. This is the first time that either student-athlete has received the award this season.
McMillan posted her second singles victory of the season in UMES' victory over Wesley College. The senior won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and 8-2 at top-doubles to lead the women's team to a 7-0 victory at Wesley. McMillan's strong play was seen on the weekend as well, where she won five singles games.
Witte was brilliant on the mound for UMES last week, as he tossed a complete-game one hitter on Saturday. It was his performance that propelled the Hawks to an 18-1 triumph over Coppin State. Witte notched a career-high nine strikeouts and walked just three, while allowing just one run (no earned) in seven innings.
The baseball team resumes action on Wednesday, April 3, when the Hawks travel to William & Mary at 7 p.m. The women's tennis team looks to get back in the win column at Hampton on Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m.
