PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Seniors Cynthia Anais (Martinique, France) and Karim Gonzalez (Mexico City, Mexico) have been named the PRMC UMES Athletes of the Week for the week of May 21. This is the fourth time that Anais has been honored with the award, while Gonzalez recieves it for the first time.
Gonzalez capped his collegiate career with a complete-game, 11 strikeout effort against Bethune-Cookman in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals on Saturday. Gonzalez allowed just six hits and one earned run against the MEAC's top baseball program. His strikeout total was the most of his career and the highest number of any Hawk in a single game this year. He concluded the year with the third higest strikeout total (37), while posting one save in 42 innings on the mound.
Anais was brilliant for the Hawks in the NCAA Preliminaries. She was one of four women to qualify for the NCAA Finals after she ran the 800m in a time of 2:04.06. Anais' final time proved to be a new UMES record and she stands as the No. 7 woman in the nation in the event.
