SIMON AND DAILEY TAKE HOME MEAC HONORS

Dec. 11, 2014

NORFOLK, Va. - On Wednesday the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced its track athletes of the week, and two of the four winners hail from UMES. Senior Dillon Simon (Roseau, Dominica) was named the conference's male field performer of the week while sophomore Alexis Dailey (Huntingtown, Md.) took the honor of women's field performer.

Simon got off to a strong start in his senior season. He won both events he competed it, with a throw of 18.38 meters in the shot put and a toss of 19.30 meters in the weight throw. The shot put toss set a Navy Field House record, which was previously set by former Hawk Tyler Blatchley in 2012. Additionally, both marks fell just shy of the school records, which Simon personally set last year.

Dailey also found many successes in her throwing events. She was the lone Lady Hawk to win an event at the women's Navy Invite on December 3rd. Dailey launched the weight throw at a distance of 15.30 meters. She was nearly as good in the shot put, taking third while throwing for a distance of 12.34 meters. UMES finished second overall with 24 points, and Dailey alone accounted for seven of those points.

The MEAC also listed sophomore Khalil Rmidi Kinini (Malaga, Spain) and freshman Dypna Umunakwe (Bronx, N.Y.) among their top performers. Rmidi Kinini reset his own school record in the 3000 meter run and Umunakwe placed second in her collegiate indoor debut for the 200 meter dash.
