Jan. 13, 2015 SALISBURY, Md. - During the holiday season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men's & Women's Basketball head coaches Fred Batchelor and Bobby Collins donated time out of their busy schedule to attend the 20th Annual Celebrity Luncheon and Auction, presented by Delmarva Power. The Lower Shore Chapter of the American Red Cross held the event at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center.
"It was a great event," said Batchelor. "I enjoyed helping the community and connecting with the different organizations in the surrounding area. I look forward to helping next year."
This was the Chapter's largest and most important fundraiser of the year and over 400 people attended. Both coaches attended as celebrity waiters and their task was to assist with the bidding on the Silent Auction while selling raffle tickets. The actual waiting on tables was done by a catering service.
"Giving back to the community was terrific," Collins stated. "It's always a privilege to give back to others, especially during the holiday season. A special thank you to the American Red Cross for allowing us to help."
For over 100 years, the American Red Cross has served the Delmarva Peninsula. Every year, the Chapter touches the lives of many thousands of people in our community. The American Red Cross provides disaster responses for emergencies ranging from single-family house fires to major disasters like Hurricane Sandy.
