Jan. 22, 2015 NORFOLK, Va. - For the third time this season, UMES senior Dillon Simon (Roseau, Dominica) was honored by the MEAC as its Men's Field Performer of the Week. Simon was also honored by the ECAC as its Division I South Co-Athlete of the Week.
Last Friday in New York City, Simon hurled the shot put for a distance of 18.89 meters, ranking him first in a field of nearly sixty competitors. Simon has claimed victory in all four events he has participated in this year-with three wins in the shot put and one in the weight throw.
Simon joins Edose Ibadin of Hampton, Tristie Johnson of Bethune-Cookman and Deandra Daniel of Coppin State as the four student-athletes honored by the MEAC. He also shares the ECAC honor with Billy Ledder of Georgetown University.
The UMES track team travels to New York once again Saturday to compete in the Metro Team Challenge.
