Chappell won MEAC honors for the first time in her Hawk career

TRIO OF HAWKS HONORED BY MEAC

NORFOLK, Va. - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its track & field players of the week, and three of the four athletes named hail from UMES. Sophomore Khalil Rmidi Kinini (Malaga, Spain) was chosen as the men's track player of the week while fellow sophomores Evelyn Chappell (Bowie, Md.) and Naje Benton (Philadelphia, Pa.) were named women's and men's field performers, respectively.



Rmidi reset the school record in the mile run with a time of 4:13.08 at the Coach O Invitational, beating a record that stood for three years. Benton won the triple jump at a distance of 14.71 meters while Chappell tied a personal best with a 1.65 jump in the high jump competition.



Furthermore, all three were also chosen by the ECAC as its players of the week for their efforts. Chappell and Benton are being awarded MEAC honors for the first time as Hawks.



The Lady Hawks track team head to Annapolis for a meet on Thursday afternoon while the men will make the same trek on Saturday.
