March 9, 2015 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- Junior men's basketball forward Dominique Elliott (Savannah, Ga.) and junior indoor track runner Jheniel Kelly (Edgewood, Md.) were named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on March 9th. Both athletes are being named for the first time this season.
Elliott delivered an all-around performance in the team's victory over Morgan State this past Thursday. He finished second in total points with 15, going 6-of-11 from the field while adding three foul shots. In rebounds, Elliott tied with senior Mike Myers (Camden, N.J.) with 10. Elliott also chipped in four assists, a block and a steal. On the season, the Hawks center is fifth in points per game with an even seven, and is second behind Myers with 4.5 rebounds per game.
Kelly took part in a record setting relay race and ran an excellent time in the 800 meter run at the IC4A/ECAC Championships in Boston this past weekend. In the 4x800 relay she ran the final leg of a race that ended up with a time of 8:50.87, good for a new school record. As an individual performer she hit a time of 2:12.41 in the 800, the second best time she has recorded this season. Of the nine points the Lady Hawks scored at the championships, Kelly was solely responsible for three and partially responsible for four more as a member of the relay team.
