April 13, 2015 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- Senior outdoor track & field thrower Dillon Simon (Roseau, Dominica) and sophomore outdoor track & field jumper Shauntel Lucius (Newark, N.J.) were named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on April 13th. Simon is being named for the fourth time this season while Lucius is being named for the first time.
Simon set the bar higher with his performance at the Mason Spring Invitational this past Saturday. He won the shot put while recording his personal best mark as a Hawk. The distance of 19.31 meters shattered his own outdoor record of 18.92 meters, and narrowly beat out his indoor record distance of 19.30 meters. Simon now ranks 12th among all Division I shot putters and 3rd among IC4A competitors.
Lucius delivered two strong finishes, starting with a 12th place finish in her first attempt at the long jump this season. She then earned her best finish yet in the triple jump with a 3rd place distance of 12.23 meters. That mark is nearly one half meter better than Lucius' previous top distance of 11.77 meters at the Raleigh Relays last March. Â
The UMES track team faces a tough test as they head to Charlottesville, Va. for the Virginia Challenge this Friday and Saturday.
