PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - As the college basketball season draws closer, reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Coach of the Year, Bobby Collins and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men's basketball staff is hosting their 2nd Annual Coaching Clinic on the UMES campus inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. The event gives current and future coaches an inside look on how the team operates and some National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level coaching techniques. The clinic will be held on Saturday, October 17th, beginning at 10:00 a.m., and the cost is $25.00.
"We are excited to hold this event for a second straight year," said Collins, who was also named the Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year last season. "There are a lot of talented coaching minds in the area but with it also being alumni and parent's weekend, we think this is the perfect opportunity to reach alumni who are coaches, as well as family and friends." Coach Collins is one of just two coaches to ever win league titles in both the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).
Coach Collins brought his WIN TODAY! mentality to The Shore, posting the best record and first NCAA post-season appearance for the Hawks, both in over four decades.
The clinic begins with an-hour Meet and Greet and registration. At 11 a.m. the coaches will have an in-classroom session, featuring Coach Collins and a guest speaker. Lunch will also be provided. Next, coaches will have an opportunity to get on-court instructions followed by a live UMES practice and a chance to watch from an on-court seat.
Participants will also receive a free UMES Basketball t-shirt.
The cost is $25.00 and reservations must be made by Thursday, October 8th. To save your spot, please contact UMES Athletic Business Manager Kevin Campbell via phone (410) 621-3311 or email, kecampbell@umes.edu. Participants may also register online at umesmbbcamps.com
For any additional information, please contact UMES men's basketball assistant coach Adrian "Ace" Custis via phone (410) 651-8155 or email, alcustis@umes.edu.
