Dec. 5, 2016 PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore has been away from the friendly confines of the William P. Hytche Athletic Center for nearly a month and the rest of December features more of the same.
But the Hawks (0-7) get a brief respite from the road on Monday (Dec. 5) at 7 p.m. when they host Central Penn (8-3) for their final home contest of until Jan. 2 when they host Valley Forge.
Central Penn plays in Division II of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) which is not NCAA affiliated, but the Knights have played NCAA Division I, Radford and Liberty already.
Senior forward Tyrie Orosco has torn up the paint for the Knights in November, averaging nearly a triple double at 19.3 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. The Harlem native's finest output came on November 6 when he netted 26 points (11-for-15) and pulled down 17 boards in a 91-78 win over SUNY Delhi. Orosco has scored at least 13 points with six rebounds in every game thus far.
Central Penn fell one game short of a USCAA Division II national championship last season, falling to Berkeley-NYC in the title game. The Knights took an exciting route to the championship game, winning a pair of overtime contests against Penn State Fayette and Johnson & Wales.
Senior Bakari Copeland (Decatur, Georgia) continues to lead the way for the Hawks this season averaging 14 points and six rebounds per contest. Junior Ryan Andino (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) is averaging 12.6 points per game and leads the team in 3-pointers made (25). He is shooting 49 percent from behind the arc.
Junior Logan McIntosh (Atlanta, Georgia) is scoring 10.6 points per game and is tied for the team lead in assists with senior Thomas Rivera (Harlem, New York) at 25. McIntosh played his most minutes of the season (36) in his first start at Southeastern Louisiana last week.
The Hawks also faced off with the Knights last season on Dec. 22. The Shore led by 19 at half and cruised the rest of the way, downing the Knights 115-86 at the Hytche Athletic Center. Devin Martin rolled with 37 points to lead Eastern Shore, while Derrico Peck (Atlanta, Georgia) added 14 as one of five Hawks to score in double figures.
After the home contest, the Hawks will travel to Virginia Tech (Dec. 7) and Central Florida (Dec. 10).
Games can be heard locally on Fox Sports Radio 960 AM WTGM or on www.EasternShoreHawks.com. Will DeBoer and David Byrd will have the call against Central Penn on the Hawks Sports Radio Network.
