Feb. 8, 2016

Princess Anne, Maryland -

Dominique Elliott (Savannah, Georgia) closed out a big week for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore by being named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week.

Elliott scored a game-high 23 points to go with eight rebounds as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore topped Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference first-place Hampton 73-70 on Saturday.

Earlier in the week, the 6-foot-8, 260-pound post player finished with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as the Hawks knocked off Howard 85-67 in a game televised live on ESPNU.

A two-game total of 40 points, 20 rebounds, two assists and three steals was also good enough to win the College Sports Madness MEAC Player of the Week.

He shot 63 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free throw line for the week.

The Hawks (8-16, 5-4 MEAC) jumped into fifth place in the MEAC with seven games remaining on their schedule. It was the team's fifth straight win at home where it is 6-1 this year.

Next up for the Hawks is a home game Monday (Feb. 8) against Norfolk State (11-13, 7-2 MEAC).

Then the Hawks hit the road again for Delaware State on Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. and Howard on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. All are the second half of a men's and women's doubleheader.

All games can be heard locally on Fox Sports Radio 960 AM WTGM or on www.umeshawks.com. Brendan Gulick and David Byrd will have the call from the William P. Hytche Athletic Center on the Hawks Sports Radio Network.
