March 10, 2016 PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland - From one service academy to another, the Hawks baseball team will travel from Annapolis to Lexington, Virginia, where they will face the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Keydets in a three game series. The teams will play at 3:00p.m. Friday, 2:00p.m. Saturday and 1:00p.m. Sunday at Gray-Minor Stadium on the Keydets' campus.
VMI will provide live stats throughout the weekend.
The Hawks and the Keydets last met in 2014, when VMI pounded out 19 hits and scored 17 runs in a shutout victory. UMES has never defeated VMI since the two teams started playing each other in 2007.
Maryland Eastern Shore hopes to pick up momentum after dropping four of their last five contests. Sophomore Toby Hoskins (North East, Maryland) is expected to play a role in the rotation, and productive offense from sophomore Jessey Valdez (Dorchester, Massachusetts) and senior Mike Escanilla (Waldorf, Maryland), among others, will be necessary to topple the Keydets.
VMI has started the season an even 7-7. David Geary leads the Keydets on offense with a .340 average and a .679 slugging percentage with six doubles, three triples and two home runs. Josh Winder's 2-1 record and 3.80 ERA leads the pitching staff.
