LAST TIMEOUT

Yesterday (April 14), the Lady Hawks split their nonconference doubleheader with in-state rival UMBC.

Maryland Eastern Shore took the nightcap, 7-2, but dropped game one despite rallying from a seven-run deficit, 10-9.

UMES produced seven runs on 12 hits in game two, led by senior Trenece Nash (Decatur, Ga.) going 3-of-4 and tying a career-high with four RBIs. Fellow classmate Kaitlyn Hitch (Delmar, Del.) and sophomores Samantha Casarez (Sylmar, Calif.) and Adrienne Guerra (Monrovia, Calif.) each collected two hits in the victory.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

Hampton (12-24, 4-5 MEAC) looks to end an eight-game slide, dating back to April 3. The club sits in the fourth spot in the MEAC Northern Division standings with upcoming league games against Coppin State (April 23-24) and cross-town rival Norfolk State (April 30-May 1). Offensively, Hampton has four Lady Pirates hitting .300 or better. Senior Taylor McCoy guides the attack, averaging .339 at the plate. In the circle, freshman Allie Hotetz has taken the reigns as the squad's top pitcher due to the absence of sophomore Allyson Babinsack. Hotetz leads the team in wins (5), innings pitched (112.0), and strikeouts (54).

For the Lady Hawks (9-20, 2-5 MEAC), they are looking to build momentum after splitting their last four contests (2-2). UMES sits in fifth place in the MEAC Northern Division, trailing the Lady Pirates (2.5 games behind). Maryland Eastern Shore will have an opportunity to get into the top four as they play their next eight league games against teams higher in the standings: Norfolk State (2nd); Morgan State (3rd); and Hampton (4th). In conference play, the squad is fourth in hitting overall (.316) with Gomez (.480) spearheading the Hawk attack. In the circle, Guerra ranks first in innings pitched (41.0) and second in strikeouts (35).

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Next Wednesday (April 20), Maryland Eastern Shore travels to Newark, Del. to face the Delaware Blue Hens in a nonconference doubleheader. First-pitch is set for 3 p.m.

On April 21, the Lady Hawks meet Norfolk State in a MEAC doubleheader at Hawks Field. Game-time is scheduled for noon.
