UMES Softball 2025 Season Recap

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team closed its 2025 season with six wins overall and two victories in conference play, finishing eighth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

The Hawks fielded a young roster featuring 12 newcomers and produced three All-MEAC honorees.

MEAC Honors

Senior catcher Paige Perkins earned second-team All-MEAC honors after stepping into a leadership role behind the plate. She appeared in 43 games, recording 16 hits, seven runs, four doubles and two home runs, while leading the team with 20 walks and throwing out 10 attempted base stealers.

"Paige started off wanting to catch, but early on she filled in at third base to help the team," head coach Aaron Robinson said. "She always wanted to be behind the plate, and this year she became our field general. Her growth in communication and consistency earned her All-MEAC recognition."

Junior outfielder Jaycee Holt earned third-team honors after leading the Hawks with 36 hits, 28 stolen bases (the most in the MEAC for the second straight year) and 24 runs scored.

"Jaycee had to step into a bigger role this year," Robinson said. "She became our go-to player, showing poise, confidence and a willingness to learn."

Freshman Clark Calvin also received third-team honors after leading the team in batting average, slugging percentage, RBIs and doubles.

"Clark had a stellar freshman year," Robinson said. "She's learning that success isn't just about consistency. It's about mindset, resilience and daily discipline. She's starting to own her role and build confidence."

Academic Honors

The Hawks also excelled in the classroom, posting a 3.18 team GPA during the spring semester.

Eight players were named to the 2025 MEAC All-Academic Team: McKenzie Abiley, Ella Falcetti, Emily Gunther, Jaycee Holt, Nola Mountain, Paige Perkins, Paris Richards and Kamille Trammell.

Seniors Abiley and Mountain earned the honor for the third time, while juniors Perkins and Holt received it for the second time.

Key Moments

Key moments from the 2025 season included a series win over Lincoln University and a notable victory at Hampton earlier in the year. Those performances demonstrated the team's potential when playing together.

"The Lincoln and Delaware State series were huge, especially since Delaware State was our final series of the season," Robinson said. "Getting the win at Hampton earlier was a big moment that showed what we can do when we play together."

2026 Season

UMES is set to return next year with the largest roster in program history, creating more depth and competition throughout the lineup.

"What excites me most? The depth," Robinson said. "We'll have the largest roster ever with more competition, more support and more options. That means players will be ready to step up when called upon."

In 2025, the Hawks relied on a three-pitcher rotation of freshman Kassidy Oneail, sophomore Paris Richards and junior Emily Gunther. That foundation is expected to strengthen moving forward.

"Staying mentally and physically ready, even when you're not starting, will be critical," Robinson said. "This next chapter is about seeing who will rise to that challenge."

With a growing culture of accountability and hard work, UMES softball aims to build on this year's progress and continue developing a competitive program.
