Gomez, Guerra Selected To The MEAC All-Conference Team

NORFOLK, Va. - Two days before the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Championships, the conference revealed its All-Conference Teams and senior outfielder Vanessa Gomez (Belleville, N.J.) and sophomore pitcher Adrienne Guerra (Monrovia, Calif.) represented the Maroon & Gray. Gomez was selected for the third time in her career whereas Guerra earned her first conference recognition. The announcement came today.

All awards are voted on by the conference's head softball coaches and sports information directors.

Before the season, Gomez earned preseason honors from the MEAC and College Sports Madness (CSM). This season, the New Jersey native led the squad in multiple offensive categories, including batting average (.331), hits (45) and RBIs (21). Additionally, she ranked among the nation's leaders in total triples (8) and triples-per-game (0.20).

Gomez wrapped up her illustrious career, manufacturing 174 hits, 117 runs scored, 68 walks, 62 RBIs, 31 doubles, and 15 triples in four seasons.

Over the past two seasons, Guerra has been the top pitcher for the Lady Hawks. This season, she led the club in nearly every pitching category while ranking among the conference's top strikeout queens. The California product finished the regular season with a league-leading 131Ks.

In her two-year career, Guerra has tossed more than 295 innings while fanning 237 hitters.

Other noteworthy recipients include Savannah State's first baseman Torrian Wright taking home MEAC Player of the Year after leading the conference in on-base percentage (.662) and total walks (50).

Teammate Cortni Jones was named conference Rookie of the Year after belting a league-leading eight homers.

Florida A&M's Kenya Pereira won MEAC Pitcher of the Year after leading the conference in opposing batting average (.234).

Delaware State's Amber Jackson was selected conference Coach of the Year by guiding her squad to a 16-2 mark in league play and 25-16 overall.

Coach Douglas returns 10 Lady Hawks, including Guerra, Allison Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Ciara Schnyder (Arcadia, Calif.).
