NORFOLK, Va. -- A day before the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Championships, the conference recognized its 76 student-athletes who achieved academic success during the 2015-16 school year and five Lady Hawks were honored: Allison Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.); Samantha Casarez (Sylmar, Calif.); Emily Diseroad (Manchester, Md.); Adrienne Guerra (Monrovia, Calif.); and Ciara Schnyder (Arcadia, Calif.). The announcement came today.

"On behalf of the conference, I would like to offer my congratulations to all of our softball student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during the academic school year," said Commissioner Dr. Dennis E. Thomas. "I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the institutional athletic academic support staffs, the coaches and the parents who all played a vital role in the success of the student-athletes."

The MEAC recognizes student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, including sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as transfer student-athletes, who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year.

All five ladies are studying different fields: Biology (Casarez); Chemistry (Diseroad); Environmental Science (Schnyder); Hospitality Tourism (Anderson); and Sociology & Social Work (Guerra).

Last night (May 10), Diseroad won Female Scholar Athlete of the Year from the athletic department's annual awards banquet, The Harry's.

Delaware State had the most representatives (11), followed by Morgan State (10).

Coach Sam Douglas returns 10 Lady Hawks, including Anderson, Casarez, Guerra, and Schnyder.
