Baseball releases 2019 schedule

Hawks to be challenged 54 times this spring

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland —Second year University of Maryland Eastern Shore head coach Brian Hollamon has released the squad's 54-game schedule for the 2019 season with 20 home dates to be played at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in nearby Salisbury.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

The slate begins in February and runs through May.

For the second straight season, The Shore will share the home stadium of the Baltimore Orioles' Class A affiliate Delmarva Shorebirds. There are 15 of those home dates occurring in March. The home season will conclude May 3-5 against Norfolk State.

"We are excited to play at the Shorebirds Stadium for the second straight year." Hawks coach Brian Hollamon said. "It is great for our program to play at a minor league facility with excellent field conditions. The Shorebirds are great partners who welcome and take great care of us, so it makes our team ready to play."

The campaign begins on Feb. 15 with a four-game series against Longwood in Farmville, Virginia. Home games will start two weeks later with another four game set versus the Fordham Rams from March 1-3. Another home series occurs the following weekend at the Aviary Invite tournament featuring The Shore, Lehigh and Monmouth.

After 18 non-conference showdowns, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play commences at Coppin State during the third weekend in March. Within those 24 MEAC matchups the Hawks will challenge Coppin State and Norfolk State nine times, and Delaware State six times.

In a change from previous years, MEAC weekends will now take place over three days. Instead of Saturday doubleheaders, there will be one contest each day from Friday until Sunday.

"The new MEAC weekends are a nice change, and puts the conference on par with the bigger conferences." Hollamon said. "This time change really helps our pitching staff and will make managing these competitive weekends easier. Cutting down the eight or nine hour doubleheader day will help with focus too as the players balance playing and studying."

Outside of the MEAC, other competitors include a four game series with Eastern Kentucky in February and a two game midweek series with Wofford in March. In-state foes from UMBC and Mount St. Mary's are also on the schedule. The season will conclude with a doubleheader in Georgetown in May, followed by the MEAC Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida.
