GREENSBORO, North Carolina — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team was outlast on Friday evening (Oct. 18) by the North Carolina A&T Aggies in five sets. Scores for the match were 26-24, 19-25, 25-20, 20-25 and 12-15.

Friday night was the seventh time this season the Hawks (8-14, 3-4 MEAC) have gone the distance in a match.

In the first set, Eastern Shore and NC A&T were tied on 12 different occasions. The score was knotted at 24 before sophomore Alexis Lee (Wilmington, Delaware) got a kill and the Aggies got an error on the next point to give the Hawks the 1-0 lead. In set two, North Carolina A&T jumped out to an early lead and maintained it to tie the match at one.

Following intermission, the two teams would go back and forth during the first half of the third frame as the score was tied at 12. The Shore would gain control from that point on to pull away and get a kill from Ilina Spasova (Sofia, Bulgaria) to end the set. The Aggies would respond in the fourth to set up the deciding set.

Eastern Shore got a kill from Spasova to tie the fifth set at six, but NC A&T would go on a 4-0 run after that. The Hawks would rally late in the set before the Aggies got a kill to end the match.

Lee and junior Tatjana Trifkovic (Belgrade, Serbia) each had 15 kills to lead the squad. Spasova finished with a double-double as she had 10 kills and a team-high 15 digs. Senior captain Ivana Blazevic (Zagreb, Croatia) had a game-high 46 assists, which was her high for the season.

Maryland Eastern Shore is back in action on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 20) at North Carolina Central.
