DURHAM, North Carolina — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team fell to the North Carolina Central University Eagles 1-3 (11-25, 25-21, 14-25 and 21-25) on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 20).
The Shore (8-15, 3-5 MEAC) now sits in a tie for fourth in the MEAC Northern division with Delaware State with seven matches remaining.
After dropping the first set, the Hawks responded in the next set. Eastern Shore would gain control halfway through the frame and hold off a rally from the Eagles to win the set.
NCCU would respond after intermission and dominate the third set to take a 2-1 lead. In the fourth set, the two teams tied nine times and the lead changed four times before an error by the Hawks would end the match.
Junior Tatjana Trifkovic (Belgrade, Serbia) capped her strong week with 17 kills in the match. She accumulated 50 kills over the past three matches for Maryland Eastern Shore. Sophomore Stella Johnson (Newport News, Virginia) finished with a game-high 19 digs.
The Hawks will now return home to face Florida A&M on Friday evening (Oct. 25) and Bethune-Cookman on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 27).
