GLEN BURNIE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore rolled through the first day of the first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference meet of the season on Friday picking up four Team Baker victories at Bowl America in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
The Hawks (25-4, 4-0 MEAC) opened the day with a 975-945 win against University of Alabama-Birmingham and then outbowled Bethune-Cookman 1,025-586. The next match the amassed 1,056 points to Monmouth's 921.
The Shore finished out the day with a 977-933 win against Florida A&M.
Freshman
Alejandra Amezcua (Baja California, Mexico) bowled in the anchor slot all day putting up a 56 % strike percentage and an 84 % fill percentage.
Classmate
Brooke Roberts (Port Orange, Florida) had a strong day as well with a 54 % strike percentage and 83 % fill rate and picked up nine-or-better on her first ball 79 % of the time.
Seniors
Brigitte Jacobs (Freeport, Illinois) and
Cayla Hicks (Salem, Virginia) came through with a sold day of their own. Jacobs had a 50 % strike percentage and 83 % fill percentage and took down nine-or-better 77 % of the time. Hicks had a 90 % fill rate and fell nine-or-better 72 percent of the time.
Freshman
Morgan Cooper (Gloucester Point, Virginia) had a 97 % fill rate.
Hicks and Amezcua also finished off all of their single-pin spares on the day.
Bowling resumes Saturday morning with five Traditional matches.
