ARLINGTON, Virginia — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore took a 3-2 lead in the third inning of Wednesday's (March 13) matchup with George Washington. But the Colonials roared back with five runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back, on the way to a 15-3 win.
Dillon Oxyer (Pasadena, Maryland) provided the clutch hit in the third. He smacked a two out, two run single that brought home Brian Cordell (Pasadena, Maryland) and Devynn Hancock (Salisbury, Maryland). The Shore's shortstop leads the team in RBI's with seven.
Earlier in the game, Michael Warley (Mechanicsville, Virginia) earned an RBI with a hot shot single that could Carson Davis (Oakboro, North Carolina).
The promising start was wiped out when the Colonials mustered five runs in the third. They carried the momentum from there, adding seven more by stretch time and another in the eighth.
On the mound, Miles LeVere (King George, Virginia) put together 1 ⅓ innings of scoreless relief with a strikeout. He was the only Hawk pitcher to finish the day unblemished in the run column.
Maryland Eastern Shore's record slides to 3-14. They will open up Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play at Coppin State this Friday (March 15).
