HANOVER, Maryland — In a seven inning game, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team fell to the Coppin State Eagles, 12-2, at Joe Cannon Stadium. The Hawks now stand at 3-15 (0-1 MEAC).
The pitching of Coppin State's Jahmon Taylor helped the Eagles win. In his 6 ⅔ innings of work he held the Hawks to two runs. Carson Davis (Oakboro, North Carolina) came in on a passed ball in the fourth and Brian Cordell (Pasadena, Maryland) singled home Payton Hoskins (North East, Maryland) in the seventh.
Caleb Walston (Princess Anne, Maryland) started for The Shore and surrendered six runs over four innings. Reliever John Killmon (Bloxom, Virginia) held Coppin State off the board in the fifth, but the Eagles managed runs off him in the sixth and seventh.
This is the second straight year the Baltimore squad defeated the Hawks in the MEAC opener by a 12-2 score, taking the first game of a doubleheader on March 17, 2018.
The Hawks and Eagles will face off again Saturday (March 16) at 2 p.m..
