HANOVER, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team lost its sixth straight game Sunday (March 17) - a 7-2 final to the Coppin State Eagles. The Shore gets swept in the series and fall to 3-17 (0-3 MEAC) on the season.
Defensively the Hawks committed four errors, most of them coming early. That allowed Coppin State to score five runs over the first two innings to win wire-to-wire. The Hawks' pitchers would settle in for the remainder of the game, except for a three run spot for the Eagles in the seventh.
Carson Davis (Oakboro, North Carolina) was the best hitter for The Shore this weekend. He added his fourth RBI of the series with a double to score Marcus Brown (Silver Spring, Maryland) in the fifth. Aaron Schreur (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan) scored the other run after coming in following a leadoff walk.
Marty Tolson, Jr. (Stafford, Virginia) took the loss, but allowed just two earned runs over four innings. Cameron Bratton (Cumberland, Maryland) pitched two scoreless frames and Cory Poulsen (Bel Air, Maryland) added a scoreless eighth.
Maryland Eastern Shore will travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina for a two game series with Wofford. Games begin Tuesday (March 19) and Wednesday (March 20) evening.
