SALISBURY, Maryland — Under gloomy skies at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium the University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team fell to Lehigh by a 13-1 final Friday (March 8). The Shore's record falls to 2-11 this season.
The contest started out promising at the outset. Junior starter Caleb Walston (Princess Anne, Maryland) retired the first five Mountain Hawks - three on them on strikes. But the sixth batter walked and the momentum swiftly swung to Lehigh. They would score four runs at the end of the second, and followed that with five in the fourth and three in the sixth.
Reliver John Killmon (Bloxom, Virginia) was able to quiet the bats late. He would surrender only one run over his 3 ⅓ innings of work. The Nandua graduate would fan three batters, bringing The Shore's total to nine on the day.
Tyler Woodward (Gaithersburg, Maryland) contributed an RBI groundout to score Avery Tunnell (Dover, Delaware) for the home squad's one run on the afternoon.
A neutral match between Lehigh and Monmouth was suspended following Maryland Eastern Shore's game. Those teams will resume at 11 a.m. Saturday (March 9), so the Hawks' second game against Lehigh will start later than its scheduled noon start. First pitch will be 30 minutes after the suspended game's final out. Stay tuned to easternshorehawks.com and @ESHawksBase on Twitter for any updates on the schedule.
