PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team found itself in an early hole in a visit to the University of Pittsburgh on Tuesday (April 30) and was unable to come back, falling to the Panthers 11-0.
Hawks starter Caleb Walston (Princess Anne, Maryland) struggled in the first three innings before being relieved by junior Johnny Franco (Hackettstown, New Jersey) in the fourth. Pitt's bats fell mostly silent after that, with Andre Bell (Detroit, Michigan) contributing two innings, striking out two, after he took the mound in the seventh.
Carson Davis (Oakboro, North Carolina) doubled for the Shore in a mostly quiet day for the Hawks, with only four hits to the Panther's 11. Devynn Hancock (Salisbury, Maryland) and Matt Smith (Salisbury, Maryland) each contributed a single.
With the loss, University of Maryland Eastern Shore falls to 10-38, but look towards Wednesday (May 1), squaring up with the Panthers in a rematch at 1 p.m.
