Hawks Fall To Lafayette in Four Sets

Eastern Shore Host Henson’s Hawk Invitational Next Weekend

EASTON, Pennsylvania With a sweep six points away against the Lafayette College Leopards, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team rallied to win the third set before falling in four on Saturday (Sept. 7) in day two of the Crosstown Invitational. The scores for each set were 15-25, 19-25, 25-23 and 23-25.

"It was good to see the girls come back and play with some heart," head coach Trevor Callarman said. "We just have to make sure we get everybody filling their role and we can show even more heart in future matches."

The Hawks trailed 11-19 in the third set after dropping the first two. A service error by Lafayette began the 14-4 run by Eastern Shore. Junior Tatjana Trifkovic (Belgrade, Serbia) had an ace to put the squad up 21-20 late in the set to give the Hawks the lead for good.

In the fourth set, the two teams went back and forth before Lafayette pulled away to a 24-20 lead. The Hawks scored three straight points to bring the score to 24-23 but would commit an error on the final point to drop the final set.

Sophomore Alexis Lee (Wilmington, Delaware) led the Hawks in kills with nine. Classmate Stella Johnson (Newport News, Virginia) had a game-high 15 digs and a trio of aces in the third set during the Eastern Shore rally.

Maryland Eastern Shore will host the Henson's Hawk Invitational next weekend (Sept. 13-14). Over the course of the two days of the tournament, the Hawks will face Rider, Hampton and Robert Morris.
