PENSACOLA, Florida — It was four more Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matches and four more victories for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday (Feb. 22) at the MEAC No 2 meet.
The Hawks (72-26, 21-0 MEAC) knocked off Florida A&M (953-824), Monmouth University (907-854), Bethune-Cookman (1041-730) and University of Alabama-Birmingham (1007-976), while freshman
Brooke Roberts (Port Orange, Florida) finished atop the Individual Traditional competition with a five-game average of 205.20. Roberts had a 48% strike percentage and marked 90% of her frames.
"Brooke had another exceptional performance on the lanes," Hawks coach
Kayla Bandy said. "She has now filled a little over 90% of her frames for the last 10 matches. She is throwing the ball great and filling frames with the rest of her team."
Freshman
Alejandra Amezcua (Baja California, Mexico) had a 52% strike rate and marked in 94% of her frames. Sophomore
Chloe Skurzynski (Carlisle, Pennsylvania) filled 88% of her frames and senior
Cayla Hicks (Salem, Virginia) had a 53% strike rate and an 80% mark rate.
"Alejandra and Chloe also bowled great today, filling close to 90% of their frames," Bandy said. "Cayla would have made all-tournament team, but was substituted out one match while she and Brigitte sat out.
Brigitte Jacobs (Freeport, Illinois), Cayla and
Paulina Torres (Ponce, Puerto Rico) were really relentless today, keeping the ball in play and were instrumental to keeping the team motivated.
Morgan Cooper (Gloucester, Virginia) saw little time today, but was there when we needed her.
"The fact that we are able to use our entire roster in one day, win matches, and score well is a testament to how great these girls really are together!"
Eastern Shore will begin play on Sunday (Feb. 23) morning against Coppin State and then move into bracket play.
