PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks and the Delaware State University Hornets will install another chapter in their Route 13 rivalry on Saturday (Feb. 29) when the two teams face off for the second time this season.
The contest will begin at 4 p.m. inside the William P. Hytche Center. The game will serve as Homecoming for the Hawks. The Shore will be looking for their first win on Homecoming since 2014.
Maryland Eastern Shore (5-23, 4-9) is going for their seventh straight win over the Hornets. The two played an instant classic back on Feb. 3 in Dover. DSU held a 66-65 lead late until senior Gabriel Gyamfi (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) knocked down two clutch free throws with 13 seconds left to give Eastern the lead as they would go on to win the game 68-66.
The Hawks are coming off a tough road trip in North Carolina that saw them drop games to the conference's top two teams, North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T. The squad's matchup with Delaware State will be the first time the home fans have seen the team since their 81-71 win against Florida A&M on Feb. 17.
Saturday's game is important for both teams in the standings for the MEAC Tournament that will begin in two weeks (March 10-14). The Hawks are currently in eighth place, while the Hornets sit in ninth with each team having three games remaining.
Eastern Shore will travel to Washington, D.C. on Monday (March 2) to face Howard before finishing their regular season slate with senior day on March 5 against Coppin State.
