Eastern Shore Struggles in Day Two of CCU Tournament

Hawks Face Monmouth Sunday

CONWAY, South Carolina — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team dropped both of their games on Saturday (Feb. 29) in the second day of the Coastal Carolina Tournament. They fell to the host Coastal Carolina University 8-0 and USC-Upstate 21-0.

"We have learned a lot from these four games over the past two days and will learn even more tomorrow," head coach Karla Powell said. "We have to use every game as an opportunity to find something to work on and get better."

The first game with Coastal Carolina was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Hawks gave up five runs in the frame. CCU would score three more runs in the sixth inning to end the game.

Senior Allison Gingrich and sophomore Rachel Gingrich (Landisburg, Pennsylvania) each got a hit against Coastal Carolina.

The Spartans of USC-Upstate jumped out early on Eastern Shore and scored in each inning played. The Shore committed three errors in the game and had just one hit. Freshman Tyanna Roberts (Woodbridge, Virginia) had the squad's lone hit in the first inning when she doubled.

Maryland Eastern Shore will conclude their play in the tournament tomorrow (March 1) against Monmouth at 11:30 a.m.
