NORFOLK, Virginia — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team will play their first game of the 2020 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament on Tuesday evening (March 10) against the Delaware State University Hornets inside Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. The game will tip at 6 p.m.
The Hawks (5-26, 4-12 MEAC) have dropped their last five games. Eastern Shore fell to Howard and Coppin State in their last two games by a combined five points. Their last victory was on Feb. 17 against Florida A&M.
Tuesday's matchup will be the opening game of the tournament for both teams and the third time this season the Hawks and Hornets have played. The Shore pulled out a nail-biter on Feb. 3 as they won 68-66 in Dover. DSU got their revenge on Feb. 29 when they defeated Eastern Shore 84-63.
In the first matchup, senior Gabriel Gyamfi (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) knocked down two free throws with 13 seconds left in the game to put the team ahead by one and gave the team the lead for good. In the second game, the Hornets had five players in double figures as they spoiled Maryland Eastern Shore's Homecoming.
The Hornets (5-25, 4-12 MEAC) are led by the conference's leading scorer John Crosby, who is a second team All-MEAC selection this season. He averages 19.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. Those averages are all in the top 15 in the MEAC.
The contest can be heard live on the Hawks' Facebook page at Eastern Shore Hawks. Pregame coverage begins with Will DeBoer approximately 15 minutes before the game tips off.
The winner of the game will play the No. 1 seed North Carolina Central University Eagles on Wednesday (March 11) night at 6 p.m. inside Scope Arena.
