Host Hawks still looking for way in Millsboro

Torres leads The Shore on Day 2

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore played another day at the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic at Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Delaware, but its view of the standings looked much the same.

The Hawks (22-22, 3-5 MEAC) went 2-3 in five Traditional matches on Saturday (Nov. 20) and enter bracket play on Sunday in 11th place.

As was the case on Friday, National Tenpin Coaches Association No. 20 Eastern Shore struggled on the fresh, dropping the opening match of the day to Saint Francis Brooklyn by a score of 937-898. The Hawks rebounded in a big way putting up a 1,056 to Wilmington's 909 in the second match and seemingly finding their line.

"I really thought after the second match that we were going to have a great day," Hawks head coach Roger Petrin said.

But that didn't turn out to be the case as The Shore struggled through inconsistent play all day, escaping No. 23 Long Island University 880-822, but dropping the final two of the day to No. 7 Youngstown State (1,040-907) and No. 6 Sam Houston State (977-882).

Graduate student Paulina Torres (Ponce, Puerto Rico) was the top scoring individual for the Hawks averaging 187.40, while Elizabeth Ross (Schenectady, New York) had a massive 277 against Wilmington in the second match.

The Shore will open bracket play on Sunday morning with Wilmington.
