PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore had two former student-athletes, Kirkland Hall and Ira "Dude" Smith, named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's All-Time team for baseball.
Hall competed for the Hawks in basketball and baseball. He was named to the All-MEAC baseball team as a junior and senior in 1972 and 1973 and was a captain of the baseball team for two years. The Princess Anne native also coached men's basketball, softball, taught physical education and served as an interim director of athletics after his playing days ended. Hall was inducted to the MEAC Hall of Fame in 1995.
Smith played for the Hawks for four seasons from 1987-90. The Chestertown, Maryland native was a two-time NCAA batting champion in 1989 (.488) and 1990 (.519). His .519 average in the 1990 season is the 6th best mark for season in NCAA history. He is also the MEAC's all-time leader in career batting average (.431), which is 14th all-time for a career in NCAA history. Smith was inducted into the MEAC Hall of Fame in 2010.

To be considered on the ballot, student-athletes must have been named to the All-MEAC First Team, MEAC Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year or Pitcher of the Year, MEAC Championship Outstanding Performer, hold any MEAC career record or be inducted into the MEAC Hall of Fame.
