PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team will play their first conference game away from the Hytche Center on Saturday (January 29) as they face the Coppin State University Eagles in Baltimore. The game will tip at 4 p.m.
"I like the way we have competed on the road all season," head coach Jason Crafton said. "As we go into Coppin State, it's still about us getting better as we use our last three games to learn and continue to get to our goals."
The Hawks (5-9, 0-3 MEAC) are coming off three straight losses in conference play with the most recent being a 75-63 defeat at the hands of North Carolina Central on January 24. Junior Dom London led the team in scoring that night with 16 points.
Although Eastern Shore did not grab a win in their first week in MEAC play, they were able to grab a total of 31 steals in those games to remain the top team in steals per game for the conference. The squad's 10.1 steals per game not only leads the conference, but it is also good enough to have the team ranked number eight in the NCAA in the category.
Saturday's game will mark the debut of junior Glen Anderson in a Hawks uniform this season. He played in 32 games while starting 22 as a freshman in the 2019-20 season. Anderson stepped away from the team in the spring 2021 semester and rejoined the squad this week. His return should give the squad some additional depth in the backcourt as a ball handler and initiator of offense.
Coppin State (4-15, 3-1 MEAC) is coming off a remarkable comeback against Howard. They trailed by 26 in their last game against the Bison and came all the way back to win 83-81.
CSU finished last season as the regular season champions in the MEAC Northern division. Their duo of Nendah Tarke and Tyree Corbett have helped them get off to a strong start this conference season.
The Shore will return home after Saturday's game for a showdown with Morgan State on Monday (January 31).
