The Shore looks to avenge January home loss to Bulldogs

Just five games remain before the MEAC Tournament

ORANGEBURG, South Carolina — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore suffered one of its more disappointing losses of the season on Jan. 22 at home against South Carolina State. On Saturday, the Hawks (8-14, 3-6 MEAC) get the chance to show that they are a different team.

"It would be a lot better if we could put the ball in the basket this time," Hawks coach Fred Batchelor said. "I thought we outplayed them in every category last time except the points on the scoreboard. We forced more than 30 turnovers. We had more than 20 offensive rebounds. I thought we defended well and did a lot of good things, but we just didn't put the ball in the basket and that is going to be critical for us to do Saturday.

"Last time, we were 1-for-17 from three and 28% from the field and from the free throw line we were terrible (56%)."

Eastern Shore has started slow in some games this season, struggling to get the offense going early in contests, but Batchelor hopes to get off to a good start in Orangeburg.

"We have to find ways to score and I'd like to do some of that off of turnovers," Batchelor said. "That would be a good way to start. It's amazing how things change when you put the ball in the basket."
