PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — On Monday (February 21), the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team will play the North Carolina Central University Eagles for the second time this season at the McDougald-McLendon Arena in Durham, North Carolina.
In the first matchup, the Eagles won 75-63 back on January 24. Junior Dom London led the Hawks in scoring with 16 points. London will not be available in the second matchup as he misses his sixth straight game at NCCU.
Monday's game is also a potential first round matchup for the MEAC Tournament that begins on March 9. The Shore is currently the seventh seed, while NC Central is the second seed so a third game between the two schools could happen in two and half weeks.
Maryland Eastern Shore (8-13, 3-7 MEAC) is coming off a heartbreaking 70-63 defeat to South Carolina State on Saturday. The squad led for over 31 minutes of the game before losing the lead with five minutes left. Junior Kevon Voyles had his career high in scoring in that game with 15 points to lead the Hawks.
"We have to pick our face up off the floor (after Saturday's loss) and show some more toughness on the glass and handle some intense ball pressure that we know Central will bring," head coach Jason Crafton said. "If we can do that, we will put ourselves in position to be in the conversation to win the basketball game and I believe we can do that."
NC Central (14-11, 7-2 MEAC) comes into Monday on a four game win streak. They won their last game 84-79 in overtime versus Delaware State in dramatic fashion. The Eagles were down 71-64 with 27 seconds left and came back to win in front of their home crowd. Justin Wright poured in 32 points to lead NCCU in the game.
The Shore returns home for a game with Coppin State on February 26 after their game with North Carolina Central.
