Hawks Fall To Drexel in Midweek Doubleheader

Eastern Shore Travels To Morgan State Next

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team was defeated in a pair of games on Tuesday (April 12) against the Drexel University Dragons. The score of game one was 3-1 and game two ended after five innings with a score of 8-0.

In game one, the Hawks finished the game with 10 hits as the Dragons had just four. However, Eastern Shore was not able to capitalize on their opportunities as they stranded eight runners.

The Hawks scored their lone run of the game in the second inning. Freshman McKenzie Abiley and graduate students Nasya Goodman and Kaylyn Sterling hit three straight singles. Sterling's single scored Abiley to put the team ahead 1-0.

In the fourth inning, The Shore loaded the bases to begin the frame. Unfortunately, they could not score off that and their lead remained at 1-0.

The Dragons would then get two runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 2-1 via a solo home run and a wild pitch. They would get their third run of the game in the sixth inning from another solo home run.

Abiley went 2-2 with a run scored in game one. Goodman threw her eight complete game of the season in the first game of the day and was 2-3 at the plate.

Sophomore Tatum Kresley began game two with a single. That would be the only hit of the game for the Hawks as Drexel's Jessica Schable threw a complete game.

Maryland Eastern Shore will now travel to Morgan State for a weekend series beginning Friday (April 15) with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. The two teams are separated by one game in the MEAC standings as the Hawks lead the conference with a 10-2 record.
