Hawks extend winning streak with comeback win at Morgan State

BALTIMORE, Maryland – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks extended their winning streak to four matches with a come from behind victory at Morgan State on Friday night.

With Friday's win, the Hawks are now 12-8 overall and 5-3 in the MEAC while sweeping the regular season series against the Bears. MSU drops to 6-16 on the year and 1-6 in the conference.

Losing the first two sets by scores of 28-26 and 25-20, all momentum shifted to the Hawks late in the third set. With the Bears serving for the match point, a kill by
Nkemjika Ikemefuna and a MSU attacking error turned the advantage to UMES.
Derionah Abner put the set away with a kill to extend the match.

UMES never trailed for the remained of the match. The Hawks led by as many as nine in the fourth set before taking the 25-19 decision and dominated the deciding set, 15-5, for the victory.

Ikemefuna was a key part in the Hawk comeback with a new-career high 17 kills. Abner and
Ranyla Griggs each finished with 12 kills. Setter
Romina Vacca had 25 assists while
Anisa Dorlouis had 18.
Soleil Cotton set the tone for UMES at the net with a season-high six blocks and
Valeria Matias finished with 19 digs.

UMES players combined for 10 blocks on Friday night which ties a season-high.

The Hawks will return home on Sunday to host Coppin State at 1 pm. CSU (16-3; 6-0) enters Sunday on a five-match win streak.
