STATEN ISLAND, New York – Entering the 2023-24 indoor season after a full off-season of recruiting, second year Hawk head coach Sharlene Milwood-Lee's University of Maryland Eastern Shore track & field teams showed promise and potential during Saturday's opening indoor meet of the season.

Competing in Saturday's Youree-Spence Garcia Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, the Hawks opened the meet with strong finishes in the men's 60 meter dash as freshman Andie Kollie came in second place (6.81) and Radjae Reid crossed the line in fifth place (6.93). Eight of the Hawk women competed in the 60 meter race with freshman Kani'a Dozier having the top UMES time of 8.08.

UMES senior Chloe Lucas was impressive in the women's 500 meter race with a third place run of 1:13.69. Lucas' time was the best pace she has had in her collegiate career.

The Hawk men performed well in the distance events as sophomore Jalen Ridgeway had a fourth place result in the 100 meter run (2:37.05). Bryce Ayers followed Ridgeway in fifth place (2:37.26).

The Hawk men's and women's top relay teams both finished in second in the 4 x 400 meter race. The combination of Kimoria Chance, Mackenzi Evans, Faithlyn Irving and Shy-Ann Campbell crossed the finish line in 4:02.42. The UMES men's relay squad of Adrian Dula, John Justice, Goslee and Brandon Altson ran the race in 3:26.43.
