Simms and Irving open the indoor season with wins in field events to lead UMES women at opening indoor meet of season


SUMMARY

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's track & field program were led by wins in the high jump and triple jump during the opening meet of the indoor season at the Virginia Wesleyan University Marlin Invitational on Friday. In addition to the success on the women's side, a new school record in the 300 meter race along with a win in the 5000 meter run highlighted the UMES men's performances.

WOMEN'S RESULTS

Returning for her final season as a Hawk, Faithlyn Irving opened the indoor season with a mark of 12.51m and a win in the triple jump while junior Lyee Simms set a new personal mark while picking up a win in the high jump with a leap of 1.68m.

MEN'S RESULTS

UMES junior Andie Kollie opened his indoor season with a record setting pace of 34.32 and a win in the 300 meter race. Teammate Dominic Gale was close behind with a third place finish of 34.87. Distance runner and newcomer Banele Mkabela also opened his indoor season with a victory, taking the top time if 14:59.37 in the men's 5000 meter run.
