Hawks have a solid weekend in Virginia Beach as they prepare for final stretch of indoor season
SUMMARY
As the University of Maryland Eastern Shore track and field program prepares for the final stretch of the indoor season, the Hawks spent Sunday competing at the Betty S. Rogers Invitational in Virginia Beach at the Virginia Beach Sport Complex which serves as the site of the MEAC Championships in two weeks. UMES placed first in six women's events and five men's events.

WOMEN'S RESULTS
The Hawk women took first place in six events on Sunday. Freshman runner
Rebecca Jepngetich won the 1 mile run with a pace of 5:31.81. Lyee Simms took the top spot in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.12 and later won the high jump with a mark of 1.58m.
Rihanna Gayle won the women's 800 meter race finishing her first place run in 2:24.50.
Mackenzi Evans crossed the finish line in 24.82 to claim the top spot in the 200 meter dash.
Jonysha Prucien won the triple jump with a leap of 12.08m.

MEN'S RESULTS
Nahshon McKinney-Spears won the long jump with a distance of 6.79m (22-3.50). The Hawks took the top three spots in the 60 meter hurdles led by Yourie Lawrence-Clarke's winning time of 8.35. UMES sprinters also were in the top three in the 60 meter dash with Andie Kollie leading the pace with a time of 6.90. Favian Gollop ran the 800 meter in 1:58.48 to claim the victory. Ranked No. 3 nationally, the Hawk men's long jumpers placed first, second and fourth led by Mackel Pierrelus who won with a jump of 14.30m.

NEXT MEET
The Hawks return to Virginia Beach on Friday and will use the Div. I Pre-National Meet held at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex to prepare for the MEAC Championships held in two weeks at the same facility. While most of the team will be in Virginia Beach, some of the top Hawk performers will compete at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invite next weekend.
